Sorry to bring this up again BUT I am still not clear. Not sure if this is old to you guys but I would like some help. I am trying to NAIL down what I should be doing with my water for my Fish. I have a TDS meter, Hardness test kit, and general PH,Ammonia,Nitrite,Nitrate. My real question is what hardness / TDS should I be working towards for my Discus. ALSO is conductivity the same as TDS or what is the correlation between the two? I have a RO/DI unit that I have bin using and I have bin adding RO right to the water that it produces. I don't want to open myself up to PH swings because of poor water conditions or what have you. I keep reading different views on this and I am getting confused. WHAT #'s should I be working towards and how do I know if my tank is open to PH swings?

I can tell you my PH seems very stable. Every time I test it its like 7.2 ish. I never have any Ammonia or nitrite and only a very tinny bit of nitrate. The one time I checked TDS in the tank it was at 285 (I think). My hardness seems to be consistently at a low/medium reading (sorry but I cant recall the #).

This may not be clear or enough info so If you need more data please ask and I will respond asap. Thanks in advance for the help.

conductivity is a way to determine concentration of minerals in your water through electrical charge... it is a way to determine the tds of your water

from my understanding you should not be worried about tds unless you are breeding to soften the eggs to make them more viable. harder water is actually better for growing out discus than softer water is. when it comes to breeding time i have read that many shoot for a 150tds reading i believe

honestly after hearing your hardness reading i would probably have to say your water is just fine

also many people mix ro water with tap to get the right tds so they dont have to buy chemicals like 75% tap 25% ro

Thaks for the reply, what I have bin doing so far is using 100% RO and then adding RO right. I guess the blend would eliminate the need for the RO right. I tell you this much. the 100% ro water is so clear its almost blue. My tap is almost tan its so dirty. I need to do a TDS check on the tap!
