Using pete will not hurt the plants. But it does little for even heavy root feeders if you are useing Ec0-Complete.
Over the years we've used a lot of things to help the plants in our tanks. Some of them are:dirt, top soil, pete, cow manure, steel wool, ten penny nails, ground up coconut shells, And Laterite to name a few. Today we have progressed and make it easier on ourselves. We use Eco-Complete, Flourite, Flora Base, Volcanit or Flora Root. With them it is no longer needed that we add pete IMO.
