I got some guppies last week and the last couple of days I noticed that one was hanging out near the bottom while the others stayed at the top of the tank. I noticed that the one guppy's stomach is very very swollen! He's starting to look like a balloon! Any ideas as to what this might be?

What are your water parameters? Tank maintenance schedule? Foods? How often do you feed them? Either constipation or dropsy is the possibility.

Ammonia and Nitrite 0, Nitrate ~10ppm, 50% wc every week. Lately I've been feeding them bloodworms but they also get flake. 1 feeding a day and everything is usually gone in less than a minute between the guppies and my dwarf gourami. This was relatively quick as I just noticed this yesterday and he's much more bloated today.

How many times have you feed them bloodworms in one week? I'd suggest only once or twice a week. They are getting too much proteins hence bloat. Fast them for a few days and stick with foods with high fiber content afterwards.

if it is a male i would think dropsy, if female, could be pregnant. my female guppies hide when they start giving birth on the bottom or in weeds( may be helping the young survive).

They were all sold to me as males jaysen. Too many blood worms is a possibility as they got them several days in a row. I'll try to get pics later, but the cam's batteries are charging tonight.

I'd stop feeding them bloodworms for awhile and feed them foods with high fiber content instead. Green peas will be a start.
