I have a 29 gallon freshwater tank that I am currently doing a fishless cycle. This tank will be a community planted tank. I am struggling with the decision of a single flourescent fixture or twin flourescent fixture. My tank has a canopy and I am afraid that a twin fixture will overheat the tank. Have any of you had any experince with this? I am awaiting my plant shipment which will be in next week and I ordered all low light plants just in case. I have a 10 gallon planted tank with a single fixture and the plants are doing great.

i would order twin fixture. not knowing what kind of lighting it is its hard to say 100% sure. its prob a t12 bulb 2 feet long? am i close. that would have 20w of light which would put your tank on the very low side of lighting. if your tank does start to over heat just put a fan over it. that will keep it cool.

bottom line doube fixture is the way to go.

I have to say that the single bulb won't be enough for your aquarium also. The 2 light fixture with proper bulbs installed may be ok for you. Even then you may find that the lighting is just a bit too low yet. If the lighting is still too low you may want to look into a 55 or 65 watt pc light fixture.

Yes, the fixture is 30" long with two 24" bulbs. The product info states you can use t-8, t-10, or t-12 bulbs. Which bulbs should I use?
