I started a thread in the FW DIY section but figure some marine folks might have some valueable info. Basically I am looking for a good brand of return pump and some feedback on my DIY sump (which will be a bit different than marine ones since its freshwater but the basics are still the same). I guess comments probably should be all on one thread so please refer to the original thread at http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=757658#post757658
Thanks for any help!

Definitely Eheim.

The difference in sound between that and my Mag pump is night and day. You can hardly even tell the Eheim is on while the Mag rattles and hums.

It's more expensive but well worth it, IMO.

Any more info on the ocean runner? never heard of them before and it seems dr fosters & smith has a good price on them, model 3500 for $52. It looks about similar ratings to the quiet one 4000 and actually a few bucks cheaper. OR is 15W more and 100gph less at 0', but I cant find any chart with the OR to see its flow at a 6' head or so. And it comes with barbed fitting which I kinda like running soft tubbing especially on the return between the pump and bulkhead. Any other thoughts on pumps? Remember, I'll be running 2 of them so I wont need a huge flow from one single unit.

Thanks for that link! It didnt come up in my google search of "ocean runner 3500". According to the chart in there, and after some metric conversion looks like the 3500 is rated approx 600gph at 6' head and 400 gph with 8' head. That is the same rating as the Quiet One 4000. The only other thing I'd be looking fro is the noise rating and that wasnt given for the OR.

Anyone else have any votes for Quiet One 4000 vs Ocean Runner 3500?
