This fish just got transported, and there was not enough oxygen, and it looked dead. We were gonna bury it, and I wanted to give it one more try,,,anyway it is moving, does anyone know if this fish looks the way it is supposed to.
A minute ago it was upright and swimming, but before that he was like this.
and what is the name of it? Its kinda yellow with 9 dark stripes.
will try for a pic.
Please id the fish
thanks

I dont know if I should leave it alone, or put it out of any misery...It is swimming inverted.

Hmm, maybe Pseudotropheus crabro? I would say it's an African cichlid of some sort, but not 100% sure. It does look like it's in very bad shape, with popeye and some sort of physical damage to its mouth that is being ravaged by an opportunistic bacterial infection...

Just my guess. I would probably euthanize this fish. Do you have access to antibiotics in Austalia, or do you need a vet's prescription to obtain them?

Incidentally, in my experience, African cichlids are merciless to sick fish, and it looks like you have a male Melanochromis auratus in there which is notoriously aggressive. I know all Malawi cichlids are aggressive, but this one is exceptionally mean.

I would put this fish in a hospital tank for sure if you are going to try and treat it.

Edit: Not really all Malawi cichlids...yellow labs are fairly mellow...but you get what I'm saying here.

I agree with platytudes- melanochromis will beat the h out of it.
