my new freeshwater 10 gal tank seems cloudy, yellowish in colour, it is Tap water that has been treated. it has been running for 2 days, i am about to add fish(they are in bags in the water as we speak.

will the water fix itself or do i need to do something? :(

That's normal...allow the tank to cycle and it will clear in time. Be very careful adding fish during the cycle as they very well could be harmed or die from ammonia/nitrite toxicity. What kinds of fish did you buy?

Guppies are fairly hardy...just monitor your water for the next few weeks for ammonia and nitrites. You'll need to do daily water changes to keep the levels low enough giving your fish a better chance of survival. If you are unfamiliar with 'the cycle', do a search on this forum for more info.

If it's well water the yellowish color could possibly be coming from high amounts of iron, which is fairly common in well water, it will go away in time. Have you tested your tap water?

Sometimes the lighting itself will impart a yellowish hue to the water given the spectrum of the bulb used. Driftwood, if used, will do the same...as would new gravel that wasn't washed thoroughly to remove all particulates. It would take quite a bit of iron to color the water, however. Have your tap tested for iron to be sure.
