Good morning everyone.

My Electric blue hermit crab has been hiding under a piece of rock now for the last 3 weeks or so.

He occasionally comes out for a rummage over the rock and then goes straight back to his hiding place under the rock and stays there all day.

Is this normal behavior for this type of crab?

Thanks.

Does he move at all? Is he active? i had hermits taht were very inactive and eventually all 7 of them died (I only use snails now anyway, don't trust any hermits). I have heard problems like this on other forums, so people must be having the same problem. How old is your tank?

Thanks for replying SuperScro.
The answer to your question is yes he does move,i have seen him out and about on the rock for a short period of time then he goes back to his usual hide out,and like i said earlier he stays there all day.
When i shine the torch at night you can see his little legs moving,so he is well alive.

Just seems very strange that he has been in the same place for such a long time.

Also the tank is 9 weeks old.

My electric blue just came out from a week long spell where he stayed in one place the entire week. He just molted also. It almost appears like a short hybernation spell..

After the week was up, the little guy was all over the place, day & night.

that is very true really...When they have molted, their exoskeleton is very soft and affords very little protection..So, when molting, they will find a safe place to stay while they molt and wait to harden....
