Hey I'm BACK did you miss me?? Introduction

I guess it’s time for me to introduce myself! I’m not really new to the group, I was here a little over a year ago but something happened to ID twice so I gave up! I could have registered again but I have been “Cooter007” for 5 years. What is a “Cooter007”? It’s a Redneck secret agent but “shhhhhhhh” don’t tell anyone.

I’ve been lurking lately because of the my new addition…. 75 gallon

I currently have a 44 gallon, 20 gallon tall, 10 gallon and a 2.5 gallon (Betta). I want to combine all of my current inhabits in to my new 75! (Not the Betta) I want to use my current substrate, decorations, heaters and one filter but I don’t know how to do this with out causing great distress to my fish.

I do not have very many fish:

10 Plattys
2 Pl*cos
9 Golden leopard Danios
1 Blood Fin Tetra
2 Shrimp

Anyway I just wanted to say hey!! I’m currently searching to see if I can find answers to my many questions. You will be hearing from me in the near future!

I just discovered this place recently & set up a new tank. (Smallest I've ever had, 6 gallons) Anyways, in the past I had a 20 gallon freshwater & 75 gallon saltwater. I would recommend getting two smaller heaters that can handle your 75 gallon & put them on each side of the tank. You need about 375 watts total. I'd just get two 200w heaters which should be plenty. That way if one fails you won't have to worry about the negative impact on your fish quite as much. Just get the submersible ones so you can hide them. If it were me I would get the tank up & running with new substrate, plants etc then introduce a few fish from your other tanks but not all of them. Let it go through the cycling process & then introduce the remaining fish. Once they are all happy you can take down your other tanks if you are aiming on getting rid of them. Good luck!

BY using the substrate (top layer), any decorations and old filter media (or filters) I would just go ahead and put all of those fish in the new tank. You will have most of your old bacteria and a much larger water volumn. Just match temps and move the fish over. Then do water tests frequently for the first week or so and if any ammonia or nitrite shows up then do a water change to combat it. I did this with the occupants of a 5 gallon going into a 20 gallon and everything worked great.
