Hi all,
have only really just found these forums so hi all and sorry to start off on a downer but things will get better (I hope).

I have been into fishes for a few months now and used to have a little community set-up but got a little bored and decided to start moving into more agressive/spcialised species

My current tank 9hopefully upgrading to something like a 48x24x24 soon) is a 48x15x12 setup with a Fluval 204 external filter, 300watt heater, 40w marine bulb.

I have been having a few probs this week so will post some pics once its sorted.
My nitrites went through the roof a couple of days ago even thou the tank was cycled and establisehed still having accertained why.

Currently doind daily 50% changes, adding Bacterlife culture (double dose), The Nitrites are coming down albeit slowy :)

The stock of the tank was.....
4in Red Parrot
3 Silver Sharks (3-4in each)
2 Zephlin Chiclids ( one 2.5in and one little baby of about 1in)
Sailfin Plec (5in)
Zebra Catfish (mr clean-up 4in)

The parrot is currently at my lfs getting some TLC while things settle down, The catfish are in another emergency tank. Sadly the others are taking there chances in the tank :( but are looking better after each change of water/does of culture
:( :(

If Anybody could offer any advice to help on top of what I'm doing that would be cool.
Otherwise hello to everyone and hpefully I will have many months of good news and some pictures to post (fingers crossed)

i'm sorry, how many gallons is that? i'm no good with measurements

Not sure, At a guess about 30-35gallons or about !40 litres.

Edit: Imerial Gallons that is, For US gallons the calculation is HxWxD divided by 231

so 48x15x12 / 231 = (I cant find my calculator :()

38-40 gallon tank.

Any changes to maintenance? Any changes in your routine (feeding, etc)? How often do you change water, how much, etc?

Also, do you know what kind of silver cats they are? There are several fish sold with a similar name, and some will need bracksih water eventually, some will seriously outgrow your tank.

your right given enough time they will get huge upto 1ft I have been told. But when that time comes I will def have a bigger tank for them :)

I havent really changed any routine, I had a catfish that ate an angel but I couldnt find any bits left in the tank, I though maybe if the angel was left in small enough peices it maybe enough to tip the balance if it was rotting on the substrate. but it was only a small angel 2in and I have throughlly double checked the tank (both after I noticed he was missing & everyday since while changing water)

I think it is one of those things that is going to ilude me and really annoy me
