hi all!! this is my first time posting here.... im pretty new to the whole aquarium.. Started In early Jan cause i wanted to add some life to my room ( I live in dorm )

Anyway I have a 20 gallon tank with 1 large algae eatter, 1 green spotted puffer ~4cm, a figure 8 puffer ~ 3.5 cm, a spotted puffer ~ 6cm, 2 dwarf puffer ~ 1cm. And a target puffer ~ 1.5 cm that im giving it away cuz its too aggressive.

So nice meeting you all and im looking forward to learning more and more fishs from you guys

Welcome to AquariaCentral, home of the most puffer lovers on the Net! (Sorry, Val.)

Anyway, you are going to run into some aggression problems because you have what will be an overcrowded tank.

The large algae eater, is he, by chance, a Chinese Algae Eater? If so, he will become pretty aggressive as he gets larger, but, since CAEs are not BW fish, you will have to switch it to a new tank anway.

Your GSP and F8P will need to be housed separately from the other occupants, and the CAE will eventually finish off the DPs.

I hope that this helps, and I hope that we can work with you in the future (and that I didn't scare you off right away!)

thanks for the advice.. Im not too sure wat kind of algae eatter mine is.. i think it was one of the most common one, pretty cheap, only ike $8 Can at this size..
he's not aggressive at all rite now, he only hides under a rock and Very occasionally come out when im no around.. once i enter the room or something he just zooms back into his hiding place.

and i definitly realize that my tank is overcrowded... i just had no self-control.. I was greatly addicted and bought anything that came across my path. i personally dont know what im going to do when my puffers get big. I will definitly upgrade to a much bigger tank in the future, but right now since im living in dorm. 20 Gallon alone is already taking up a large chunk of my room, and i probably wont be able to upgrade to a bigger tank until a little over 1 years from now when i move into an apartment

I know the feeling. My 10 gal is all that I have room for right now in my dorm...well, actually, I have room for another 10 gal, but it will have my Nepenthes ventricosa pitcher plant when that arrives. Next year, I'm living in a suite-style room, so I'll get to have a larger tank, and something fun will have to go in there to make up for this untamed addiction!

Anyway, I figured that you would want to know that, but the sign that you are a good fishkeeper is that you know your tank is overcrowded...now hopefully you'll find somewhere for the stragglers...if nothing else, get a cheap 10 gal kit for $29...those are pretty easy to stick somewhere in the room. Best of luck!

$29 10 gallon kit? where?

doenst a heater alone costs much?

if i can i really want to keep my target puffer, he's got .. mean, killer look to it.. im thinking of giving my large spotted puffer to a store or something.. too big, too early

Welcome to AC!

you definately will come across some issues with that tank. Primarily that you have brackish and freshwater puffers. I would stick with one or the other and setup another tank for the others. a 20 gallon tank isn't much room for more than 1 puffer other than the dwarfs.

Ideally I'd say a single brackish puffer, some bumblebee gobies, maybe some glassfish a pair of mollies and a knight goby would be a good setup for your 20 gallon, it's what I'm in the process of setting up for an empty 20. fig8s stay a little smaller than GSPs and can sometimes coexist with other fig8s until adulthood.

You'll also find that people on this board are scattered all over the world, and different countries have different exchange rates, a $29 heater where you are may be the same as a $12 heater here. the Walmarts around here regularly have the 10 gallon kits for $29.

I was thinking Wal-Mart, too. That's where I got mine, and I might have paid a little more (just because I wanted fluorescents over incandescents).

BTW, good point on the puffer mixing, rjl420!

Yes, I was gonna say there was a mix of BW and FW puffers in there. I own targets, the only ones I have ever owned. They are FW.
Is your algea eater a pleco?

You many want to get another tank in the very near future.

thanks for the advice, looks like i'll have to give most of my puffers away since getting another tank is not reeally an option for the next 14 months
