Hi Guys.
found your site last night and i have taken in so much it is untrue. i have been glued.

i have the most beautiful red parrot that was on its own after his partner died a year ago. Most of my lfs over here in liverpool england have always said that i should not put anything else in with my parrot. And as i cannot get another parrot i didnt. Last week i was in an out of town aquatics store and they had all sorts of different cichlids so after speaking to a lady who seemed to know alot i bought 2 chocolate cichilds. it was more of an impulse buy and i just thought i could give Milo some buddys. WOW i think i have been had by the yeah your fish will be okay toghether trick. Okay my parrot is massive (4.5" and fat)compared to these fish(1 inch) but after very little research i am starting to worry that they will take over my tank and kill my parrot.
Has anybody ever had this combo in their tank??? Should i take them out before they get to big???. Also as i have learnt from this site i CAN put fish in with my parrot and i was planning a new 150-200g tank when i move house for the last time. i was going to give him away to a friend and start again with a community tank. but i really would like to bulid my tank around my parrot. Any suggestions for what i could do. Cheers

Can you divide the tank off untill the chocolates grow a bit more? Or have another empty tank until you get more advice? I haven't had that combo. usually run species only. Give the post some time, there will be more input.

And, Welcome to AC!

Blood/red parrots are usually recommended for species-only tanks because their funny mouths and weird bodies will allow other "normal" fish to easily outcompete them for food. Am I correct in this, or is there another fish called a "red parrot"?
