I fell into keeping fish by default, my teenage nephew and his girlfriend bought a 1 inch goldfish together and when they broke up I somehow ended up with custody..Henry lived in solitary state for about a year but he seemed to become increasingly agitated (jumping out of the water and ramming each end of the tank) so a couple of months ago I broke down and got Fred & Ginger and The Kinks to keep him company. We thought he was attacking Fred & Ginger so moved them to another tank and he seemed to calm down with just The Kinks for company for a few weeks, then he was back to the headbanging, he also took to bashing the plastic plants with his tail - at this point he has reached about 2.5 inches. In the meantime I was given David Bowie (currrently about 1.5 inches) who got on fine with Fred (2 inches) and Ginger (body size not quite an inch). After much interviewing of petshop staff I upgraded to a larger, longer tank and risked putting them all in together and so far so good, Henry has not only settled down, he is tolerating the others. Unfortunately I lost one of The Kinks in the move to big tank, not sure if it was shock, water problems or what, thankfully the other three are rocking on quite happily. Lou Reed (body about 1.5 inches) arrived just last weekend (another present I wasn't ready for but could not refuse) and seems to have struck up quite a friendship with Henry. Tonight they got an airstone in addition to their existing airpump and it's like watching kids queue up for the ferris wheel, they are taking it in turns to ride the bubbles up and circle back down again. And all I said at the beginning was...somebody better feed that poor fish ....
