any thoughts or ideas on keeping fish from hiding behind rocks all day, or helping fish get comfortable with the front of the tank?

thanks in advance

^ agree. It depends on the fish. The only thing u can do is give him time to get comforatable. But some fish won't come out ever. I have a goby that's still afraid to come out, and he's been in the tank for over a year.

^agree all the above time

my purple firefish was like that until i added more fish, he felt more comfortable. in cichlid world, we add fish that is called ditcher so they can be less scare. in the wild, theres schooling fish that indicates all other fish that coast is clear

foxface rabbitfish, dragon goby, cardinal....

the foxface hides the most, been in the tank about 2 weeks, the other 2 have been in around 3 months

foxfaces are generally shy creatures. Get used to it. approach the tank slowly and offer food. Mine freaked out and turned all sorts of patched color after I moved him to QT but offer small amounts of Nori every time I walk to the tank (which is currently on a kitchen counter so I'm in there a lot lol) and he's "remembering" who I am.

Especially the small amount of time you've had it, it's normal. If you want fish out in the open all the time, I'd suggest some more outgoing types as all you've listed are somewhat skittish fish.

Fox faces are very shy like Mandy said.I had one and he always ran and hid everytime he thought you might come near the tank..He teamed up with my yellow tang and started to harass my sailfin tang so because of this and him being so sacred all the time I traded him in for a different fish. Now my yellow and sail fin are buddies again.I did try to work with my fox face but he never over came his fear.
