I am having a problem with high alkalinity in my 10 gallon aquarium. I believe it my be due to the petrified wood I am using in my aquascape. Has any one had this problem before and what can Ido about it?

I doubt the wood will cause it, but I could be wrong. Usually the only rocks that'll buffer your tank are "lava" rocks and limestone ones. Check your water straight out of the tap. You may want to look into buying R.O. water.

It depends on the amount of alkalinity & perspective. Most fish prosper with dissolved calcium and magnesium (secondary division freshwater fishes) but I understand that Amazonian spp. prefer less hardness and a neutral pH.
