My ammonia level is raising.. It's at a bout a .25 or .5. Should I do a partial water change till I can get to the LFS to get something to correct it.... Its a 36g with 6 Black Phantom Tetras, 1 Small Angel, 1 Pictus Catfish, 2 Zebras, 1 Fiddler Crab.
Do a water change now, 60%. Do 20% water changes after that, each day until you don't notice the ammonia. Do not use chemicals to correct it. You should not have any measurable levels of ammonia. Is your tank cycled? What size is it? What do you have in it?
Also be sure to keep an eye on your nitrites and keep them under .25ppm until the tank has fully cycled. This may involve doing water changes everyday until ammonia and nitrites stay at 0ppm
How long have you been cycling the tank...and how was it cycled...with fish or adding another source of ammonia?
it was cycled with two zebras for a week and then added four mollies for another week then the rest of the fish. The LFS said since I let the tank run with bio-wheel for a week then added two fish then four more it was fine to go ahead and stock the tank. Were they wrong?
a week will not cycle a tank with only two danios in it. not nearly enough ammonia was being produced to build up a colony to hold your current bioload. I am guessing that your tank is still trying to play catch up with your current stocking.
