so SBee and I were at our ultra-crappy LFS today...and turns out they've changed owners. managers. and employees. Along with this change has come an abundance of pretty, healthy, reasonably priced fishies.

Talking to the guy there though....he was saying that we could expect some "revolutionary changes" in the next few weeks because they were going to start using this new "HIIAT" filtration system.

Apparently, this system has taken 15 years for some dude in Florida to create, and it is "SIMPLY AMAZING." "Algae WILL NOT grow in this tank," and "we're the only store in Canada permitted to sell this system"

Anyone ever heard of this miraculous new filter??

There are no results for it on google, which basically means it is unknown to the world :)

So what this owner is saying is that the country of Canada only gave the rights to the "ultra-crappy" LFS to sell? That sure doesn't make much sense. I would definately try to find out more from the store.

Dude I live in delta too, what store is it?

That Hiatt "Right Now" cycling product is a trip. Seems it works in fresh or salt and is the same miracle Bio-Spira was supposed to be.
From the Hiatt website
"Right Now! Bacteria allows you to set up your tank or pond in one day! No longer must you wait 4 to 6 weeks to cycle your tank. (See the Aerobic Nitrate Reduction & 24 Hour Cycle technical papers for full details on how RN! Bacteria used in conjunction with the Tri Base Pelletized Carbon works to complete the nitrogen cycle aerobically in 24 hours.)
Stored correctly has an 5 year shelf life. No more spoilage on your shelf.
Very easy to use, just follow our easy protocol.
Right Now! only needs to be used once!
Add fish five minutes after adding Right Now!
RN! SW combined with Hair Algae Remover Saltwater or RN! FW combined with Metal Gone Freshwater, hair net and micro algae are consumed in three to four weeks for a good-looking saltwater system or freshwater aquarium/pond.
Eats sludge for cleaner tanks and ponds.
Bio-resistant to killer copper and 7 other heavy metals.
Dosages of methylene blue and malachite green will not kill Right Now!
Consumes phosphates.
Safe to use in reef and non-reef tanks.
Costs less to ship, because there is no water weight.
Can never be overdosed, if suggested dosage protocol is followed.
Can be added to existing aquariums and ponds when following our protocol, with positive effects.
Right Now! is laboratory proven to reduce nitrates aerobically, the only product on the market to do so.
Why use something that works half the time when Right Now! works all the time."

Except for the fact that it is "super bacteria" which cannot be killed...I'm not sure I'd want that in my house!!!

Umm.

I don't know about you guys/gals. But I want to see some algae growing in my tanks. Yes too much is never good but having some shows that the tank is healthy.

As for the super carbon. Who uses carbon??? Carbon should only be placed in a tank to remove meds after treatment. Otherwise there is no need for it in a well maintained tank. Damn. I haven't put carbon in a few of my tanks for years.

Having something stripping everything out of the water can't be good. If it is removing all the nasties (which by the way would never be an issue if you do minimum maintenance on your tank) chances are it is removing anything that might be good and needed in the tank.

If you are planning on drinking the water, yes I want everything removed. Which it seems to me that this whole system was designed for originally. To make better drinking water.

Who here has fish that were meant to swim in a distilled type water??? Certainly not me.

Hmm.. you know how often someone mentions here that activated carbon has such a short life and it's so rapidly colonized by nitrifying bacteria? ...the which is correct, BTW.

Well, here's an inventive entrepreneur who's bent on transforming that drawback into an advantage!
