Hi all,

I have a 38G tank with AquaClear 50. It only comes with 2 intake tubes, thus it could only reach the centre of the tank. Would this cause any problems? Should I get another tube so the intake would reach closer to the bottom of the tank?

Thanks in advance

I would run it and see if you get any spots were stuff settles then you'll know whether it's close enough to the bottom of the tank to create good circulation. On another note; depending on stocking levels the 50 might be too small for the tank you have. The turnover would only be 5 times an hour which is considered bare minimum (7-10 being ideal).

Thanks. I got ther filter from a friend and I was wondering myself if it would be sufficient for my tank. Would using it for a 10 or 15 gallon tank be too much? On the package it says it is for 20 - 50G.

I've found the flow contoller works well on the AquaClear filters. The minimum flowrate on a 70 is around 250l/hr (64g/hr) I believe, which would be good for a 10G.

It isn't a problem. It just won't do as much bottom cleaning. I have had a hard time finding a hob that will reach the bottom of my tanks. Either the tubes are too short or too long. I run all of my hobs with the short tubes now. The important thing is mechanical and bio filtration. You can always clean the tanks when you do your water changes.

Another good point. I use Penguin 150's on ten and 15 gallon tanks. The current is high but not bad enough to bother any of my fish or tadpoles.
