Bittabit, I went through the same thing cycling my tank with fish. I got annoyed with the fish have to suffer through the cycle.

One option is to add bio-spira. I added it to my tank two weeks into the cycle. It didn't work as quickly as it would have in a brand new tank but three days later my tank was completely cycled. My be worth a shot if you find you can't handle the wait!

Find a buddy with an established tank and see if you can hook your filter up to it for a couple of days. That would get the bacteria running.

Unfortunately I am the only person I know with a fish tank! I am almost cycled...no Ammonia, still have Nitrites and the Nitrates are through the roof. I have been changing 20% water every couple of days to bring it down. I am just waiting for the Nitrite reading to go to zero. I think I have that right, Ammonia and Nitrite have to be zero and you only get a Nitrate reading and that is when you are cycled right.

Right.
The general idea being if you drop in your load of ammonia in the morning and ammonia and nitrite read 0 by the following morning the tank is cycled. Extremely high nitrates are probably not good, but frequent water changes during a cycle are not required.
good luck
:)
