Holiday feeding

Many times, the feeder blocks also alter your nitrates as well. I used these blocks about 6 years ago for some trip I took (I dont remember which trip now). Anyways I was going to be gone for 8 days and I wanted to "be on the safe side" by trying a feeder block. I came back to find that 50% of the shell was still left behind and that the food was rotting (well... wasting away) inside the remaining shell. Other pieces of the food was deep in the gravel.

My nitrates in this tank were under 15 ppm for 10 years. When I returned home they were near 40.
