Holy thread algae!

This sprung up in about half a week.

I kinda went lax on dosing Flourish in the 40, since I had to focus on other things.
I don't want to dose chemicals aside from Flourish. Are any of my fish going to chomp on it? The platies picked a little, but were largely uninterested.

What's the best way to get rid of this stuff? Did the Flourish keep it in check before?

You are talking about Flourish Excell? I would start dosing again. You can always manually remove some with a toothbrush but no guarentee any fish will do it for you. I have a Florida flag fish that is too lazy now to bother with algae.

I would try lightening on feeding the upper section, but then the upper swimmers attack the sinking pellets like rabid dogs.

SAE will eat it, but fish arent always the best solution. Dosing Excel would be best, plus help your plants grow at the same time, just double the daily dose, so a 40gal would be 8mL per day. But before you start look through the list of what is sensitive or ask before you dose.

I know what is sensitive, and I have either none of it, or very small portions of it (anacharis, val). I don't care if hornwort is or not, the piece I have is too massive anyway.

That's Hair and thread algae. The hair algae was there as a first sign, there are no fish that will consume that amount. Removal of affected areas on plants and a Major water change, reset nutrients, and check bio filter. Feed less if you are not dosing ferts. and injecting C02.
