I have Hornwort, quite a bit of it and the end of each needle turns a darkish brown then the plant seems to turn to a sort of jelly substance at the base where it has the metal thing holding it together. What is goin on with it? Is it an algae growth that is occurring? I have stripped all the hornwort out of my main tank and put it in a back up tank. What can I do to grow this plant better? I am doing fine with Java fern, java moss, bronze wendtii and amazon sword plants. I just cant grow hornwort. Any answers or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a million in advance!! :)

Most plants that are weighed down will rot around the area it's touching. Usually too tight or bending/bruising the plant.

Hornwort never roots. Let it float.

One thing that I was able to do with my hornwort was to use a suction cup with a hook and loop a few strands to keep it towards the back of the tank. The plant grew upwards and gave the same planted effect. I had a sword in front of it to hide the suction cup.

I was gonna say the same thing. ;)

I've taken really long strands, wrap a plant weight loosely around the middle, and let it sink. One side will look upside down but with enough going both directions, it looks ok.
