Hornwort...roots?

How cool? The owner told me it would spread like crazy and grow out of the water in my tank, which is just an average tropical tank at 77 degrees.
i just bought some hornwort myself, and from what i hav found your tank should make it just as happy as can be. personaly i like the free floating look of it and am going to leave it like that.
I will let it take over the top of the tank partially, however I don't want it choking out the rest of the plants.
If it's floating does it still have some attachment to the substrate, or just completely on its own up at the top?

it all depends on your current from what i have seen. some of what i have has settled towards the bottom but not quite on it, while some of it just slowly drifts around, but it does get tangled up in the anacris and cambomba. but it does seem to be completly on its own with no root or ryzhome at all.
Hornwort is found worldwide, including in tropical regions. It can grow fine year-round in tropical temps.
Hornwort lacks true roots, but you can "plant" it in the gravel and the part you plant will eventually anchor itself with rudimentary roots, or you can just leave it free-floating. I usually root mine to provide a green background for my planted tanks, since its cosmopolitan and fits in well with my biotope-oriented tanks.
I plant mine too. I like the way it looks with having a tall tank I just rip off when it reaches the top and than replant that so far its filling in good.
It always disentegrates in my planted tanks that are kept about 82, which is why I say cooler water.

Its the only water plant that I can grow with my weak 18W lights or window light. It just floats around the tank growing and being nibbled on. You can never tell where it will end up. Sometimes its on the intake and sometimes its on the top but it seems to have a will of its own when it come to finding the best light source position.
