I have this setup on my tank and was wondering what would be the best thing to put in the media basket of the HOT Magnum. I was thinking about some "noodles," but don't they help the biological filtration, which the bio-wheels are already doing? Or should I put some carbon in the basket? Just need some ideas of what to put in the basket with this setup.

Thanks,
JEFF

When I was using Magnums, I kept the basket pretty well crammed with carbon. It worked well, for what it was supposed to do, but then again... there are different opinions on carbon and it's usefulness.

At any rate, carbon in the Magnums keeps the water nice and clear. I gave up on mine before I started experimenting with other media.

I have heard several opinions about stuffing extra poly fiber batting down into the basket which will help further mechanically filter the water. This is what I will do with mine most of the time. (I have one on order)

I do currently have an old "hand-me-down" which doesn't have any special features like the bio-wheel or gravel vac, etc with it. It has worked great and is extremely quiet. I've personally had it for about a year and the person before me had it for several years. Still works great. I use this filter exclusively for bio-filtration on that tank. I even placed a prefilter on the intake to keep it cleaner. I used ceramic noodles, just for info.
