How aggressive is Pineapple tree coral?

Looking at frags today, I noticed a really pretty neon pineapple....didn't know much about it so I read up on liveaquaria real quick, they've listed it "semi-aggressive."

I still don't get it. How can a coral be aggressive? I have a galaxia frag that I have moved all over that tank, it's been right next to zoas, brain, birdsnest, tongue...but doesn't seem to harm anything.

One day your Galaxia will surprise you! Or more likely one night. Galaxia put out long sweeper tentacles at night which pack quite a sting, as coral stings go, to clear space. Capnella, your Pineapple Tree doesn't sting for defense but like most leathers relies on chemical warfare. But it's not usually an issue with this coral. No issues adding it.

Ooooh yeah I know about gettin' tagged by the galaxia, been there done that...how far away should I keep the galaxia from everything else?

It should be in a tank next to your reef tank :).

Corals have all kinds of aggression. It all depends on the coral really.

LPS likes to sting/eat any competition to get it out of the way.
Softies like to stage chemical attacks so that they can out grow the competition.
SPS...they prefer to convince the aquarium owner that they are valuable, so that the aquarium owner does the dirty work for them by building the tank to their specifications.
Mushrooms usually just simply don't care (which should make anyone suspicious right away :uhoh:).

I've often wondered if any money could be made creating small nano tanks, stocking them with two corals, and then taking bets on which one will win... :evil_lol:

Capnella's like to use the aquarium-equivalent of a zerg-rush as their form of competition. As in, they just keep coming until the competition runs out of ammo.

I am so confused now guys....

So you all seem to agree I should find a different home for the galaxia? I have been giving it a shelf of it's own and 4-6" of space for the aggression reason, but....i can already tell that is really not gonna work out, since I have a Biocube and love adding more coral to the reef lol....it's been six months, how come nothings been even slightly different since I put it in...marine compatability is a much HUGER deal than I realized when I started this tank....

Personally I look at it as a matter of personal preference. Just keep in mind what you have and the risks and all is good.

Some will tell you certain LPS are too aggressive/mean and will take over a tank. Some will tell you certain softies reproduce too quickly and to never stock them (Capnella being one of them). If you like them then you can make it work. It just may be a little more trouble then expected.

Keep in mind if you are mixing softies and LPS that some softies are known for tough chemical warfare and some LPS can be sensitive to it. Capnella is a mild chemical fighter since it prefers raid growth so you are okay there.
