How can I get more Oxygen in my water?

I have 2 tinfoil barbs in my tank - an article I read on them said that tinfoils need more oxygen in the water than other species. Is this correct? And, if so, how can I increase the O in my water?

Thx

I always understood that you oxygenate by agitating the surface of the water so e.g. an airstone doesn't work because of the bubbles in the water, but because the bubbling causes ripples.

So you can add an airstone, or adjust your filter flow up if that's practical for your set-up, or add a spray bar.

I'm very new - someone else on here will give you great definitive advice.

Need to know how much you have now. Though that will help someone else, as I am not familiar with that fish's specific requirements. on AC and places like myfishtank.net, liveaquaria.com there are species profiles which may help.

Air stone or merely making sure you have surface agitation from your filter water puts O in. I don't know the number of ppm's.

heh Coler- posted at the same time... I think airstones might work.

add a hob filter , a small one just for the waterfall effect. kep the water level where the water falls and you see little bubbles under the water. that puts oxygen in really high then adjust levels after you try it for less movement add more water. for more take some water out. my gold fish love alot of falling water they hang out under the drop i would guess cause it is fresh air to them?

I would like to see some scientific documentation that the water can exchange gases with air in contact with it at the surface, but can't with air in contact with it below the surface.

all i know is thats the way god does it..i'm not going to contradict him..if it works for him is should work for us? but you can decide, just like to follow nature, not ruffle feathers.

Well, keeping religon aside, as we should here, there are plenty of instances in nature of bubbles in water.....

i never said this is the only way, did i? i thought these forums was to give ideas, and different ways of doing things.. boy lighten up people there is more than one way in the world to do everything.
some people just don't like others to invade their territorys sorry, i promise to never come back to this forum, i just thought if i put this idea out there if someone already has a hob they could use it instead of going to go buy something else.. grow up people and find there is more than your ways..
