Very true but don't let it fool you. It is harder than it looks. I had my pond drained twice by mine cuz it sprang a leak . I ended up just buying one. Much easier.

Skimmer with mesh pad installed into side of pond/liner with a Mag24 pump.
Pump piped Tetra UV2 and then to Biofalls that contains a circular mesh pad, mesh bag of lava rocks (around 5lbs), followed by a mesh bag with Barley straw. I replace Barley about every 4-6 weeks in season.
My water is and has been absolutely beautiful. Clear (tanins from barley tan it up somewhat, but clear) water to see all bottom activity. I am definately overstocked as my "raised from feeder goldfish" Comets have been breeding and living well over the past 6 years. I use no chemicals, nor do I do water changes. I add only if rain does not provide enough (use dechlorinator for tap water).
Hope that helps.
