i just got in an argument with some people in a chatroom on another fish forum.
basically, this woman was trying to tell me that i shouldn't have discounted what her buisness partner said (they own a fish store) when i didn't even do such a thing, i just told him that newbies need to learn the basics, things he has known for 30 years and doesn't even think about anymore.
anyway, i told her that, and she says that he knows more about fish than anyone and blah blah blah. and then says that she believes there's no such thing as overstocking so long as you have lots of filtration and do water changes. so i'm like "So you think its ok to put a 14" goldfish in a 10g tank?" and she said "Yes. he would survive, he just wouldn't be happy"
so i told her that when we pulled goldfish from the wild and selectively bred deformities into them, etc. we made a commitment to them to provide them with a home in which they could thrive, and be happy, healthy, and safe. and she said she agreed.
so i asked "The why would you say its alright to do that to a fish? why would you tell a total newbie that a betta could live in a cup of nasty water, when that person might believe you and force a living creature to live in those conditions???"
and she said "Because they can survive in a cup."
there was some more arguing back and forth along the same lines and it deteriorated from there until i finally said "Why am i arguin with ignorant morons?" and left the chat. i was so angry, i just wanted to reach through the monitor and slap her.
