I have a 200 gallon fish tank with 9 blood parrot cichlids. I've been noticing these little worms wriggling close to the top of the water. I assumed tat they were planaria, what do I do to getrid of them? and wht is dropsy?

planaria is a sign that your tank maintenance is lacking and that you are overfeeding. you don't need chemicals to get rid of planaria.

do a really good gravel vacuuming, along with a good size water change (at least 50%). keep doing this at least a couple times a week and you should see the planaria go away.

and feed less.

I dont know if planaria wiggle unless appropriate chemical/substances are added to eradicate them.

If you are talking about fine white worms, probably not a planaria and can be controlled via increased frequency of wc with vac. Such will remove detritus which these worms may thrive on as well as worms themselves.

Pics?

The tank has no gravel. We got a new stand for the tank and we did basically a 100% water change. So I guess I'll just feed less.

No gravel and 100% water change... ? I thought substrate was required for a healthy aquarium? Also, with a 100% water change, you're removing all the good stuff from the water as well as the bad.

gravel or any kind of substrate isn't necessary to have a healthy tank. many breeders keep bare bottom tanks and their fish are obviously healthy because they are reproducing successfully.

a 100% water change has its place, and in some instances can be very beneficial to the tank and its inhabitants. you just want to make sure that you aren't creating too drastic a change in water parameters because that can cause issues.

I know, I used some of the water in my pond too give he tank a head start. Also some tap water, because I didn't want to drai my pond too much, with water conditioner. I kept the old filter media nad washed out the muck with pond water. And the fish are very healthy. But one thing I found that was peculiar, was that one of the cichlids had like a 10 mm bubble coming from the anal area!

Trap them or poison them.

To trap them and control the population, drop a or some small strips of fish into the tank. In a half hour or so vacuum siphon the strip of meat and the feeding planaria up.
Do not try a net, they'll slip right out of it.
Repeat until the population is small enough not to be an annoyance.

Okay. They just look really disgusting and my mom is all worried because she's had these fish for like 6 years. I actually don't really like them, I wanted new fish.... but alright, I'll tell her the good/bad news tomorrow.
