How do you take off the black rims on tanks?

I wanted to take the black rims off those regular tanks sold in petco and other pet stores.
It's not something I MUST do, but it's just something I wanted to try for aesthetic purposes.
Plus, my Co2 bubble counter can hang on my tank better this way.
Is there any clean and safe way to remove the rim without damaging the glass?

I've been looking into it in that link and with some googling since reading this thread, and I think I may give it a shot on my 10g.

It seems commonly recommended not to do it with tanks larger than 20g due to the decreased lateral support of being rimless.

Rimless tanks from online sources have special adhesives, the tanks with rims have them for a reason, they are needed for support....do it at your own risk. I would say box cutter/pry with something...be careful. You can buy a rimless tank....MrAqua or GLA aquariums....ADA too.

actually, I believe the rimless tanks are made with thicker glass..and the dimensions usually move away from taller tanks.
