I BELIEVE, and don't quote me here, that it loses potency after a few days... Could easily find out, just test it for several days and see if that is the case... I read that somewhere, but I cannot quote a source as it's been a LONG time..
I've got some questions. My tank is 30g and i am going to start dosing with calcium as i am getting into SPS corals. I haven't been dosing with calcium but i am going to. First off, does this method of dosing only apply to kalkwrasser or does it apply to the other calcium boosting methods? Also say for instance my tank lost 1g of water every 24hrs. I would need to drip 1g of water every 24hrs to replace the water lost right, right. But how do you figure out wether or not your dripping 1g of water every 24hrs? Because if your loosing 1g every 24hrs, and your dripping half a gallon every 24hrs then the water levels in your tank are gonna drop and salanity is gonna go up. How did you guys solve this? I am probably missing something here so if so tell me. Thanx b
If I understand your question right..
You drip freshwater. This (theoretically) will keep your salinity the same. As one gallon of water evaporates it is replaces at the same time by your drip (kalk) mixture (as long as it is set to drip one gallon in a 24 hr period. It will take a little experimenting before hand to find how to set your drip rate for a 24 hour period. (Or if you know a nurse you could ask her I suppose).
So in short, the drip method is suppose to replace your evaporated water and at the same time add calcium to your system keeping your pH stable and high and keep your ALK level as well.
Does that sound right??
