how does it feel to be pinched by a crayfish? because i try to catch them in the spring and summer in a creek near my house but nets dont quite catch them so how does it feel to get pinched?

Not terrible, if you're talking little 4-5 inch crays.

It depends on the size and species. Some of the large crayfish really lack power in their claws (my large Cherax quads for example. It gets your attention by it doesn't really hurt). And some smaller crayfish are capable of putting a heck of a lot of power on single points, and can break the skin (my 4" Cherax holthuisi has hooked claws, so when she pinches all the power is focused on the hooked points, hurts like all hell).

For the most part though, it just gets your attention but it's not going to make anyone run off crying or anything. And with the exception of a few species, if you pick them up from behind the head, they can't get their claws back far enough to pinch you. ^_^

With nets put the net BEHIND THEM and scare them into it. Do not jsut swipe at them, they will always get teh better of you.

When picking them up, grab behind the head and push lightly down where the claws meet the carapace. That way they can only raise there arms so far up.

yeah i figured as much to scare anything into the net but the thing its hard to posistion between the rocks, wood and little critters

when I was younger I just used a forked twig to pin the crayfish behind their head. Never been pinched.

I've friends who scuba dive some lakes around here, they use their gloves, sweep their hands around the bottom, and get pinched. They then deposit the crayfish in the bag traps. They have contests to see who catches the most in 30 minutes. They usually get 60+. However, the crayfish life expectancy is less than that. My friends cook up their catches.
