Okay so as some of you may know, I got a new 55g. I'm going to do Lake Malawis. So heres what I might do, but I want to make sure it will work! Please, if somebody won't fit in or something won't work, let me know! Also, i'm not sure of the numbers so if someone could tell me those that would be awesome!

3 Yellow Labs, 1 Ice Blue i think its called (its not the zebra one), either 1 or 3 Aurora, 1- Blue Johanni, 2 or 3 Hongi, 1 snow white Socoloffi, 2 Blue Cobalts, and 1 either Electric Blue Ahli or Blue Acara (centerpiece hopefully)

Could I add anything else or more of one of these fish?? Will those numbers work or not?? I will just have one big fish so either the ahli or acara, would they do ok? Or could both of those 2 possibly work? Thanks!

Hahaha ummm....well, I was just going to pick whatever. Like, I wasn't going to go to the store and look for specifically males. But now that I think about, I think all males would be better... nicer colors I would think. Would that not work? I could try to look for females and males of the same species if that would work better...but i would prefer the all males probably.

I've got an all male mbuna tank and it's working out fine as long as you don't have 2 fish very similar in coloration, the aggression will be down.

An advantage to an all male tank is that you can have alot of different species with different colors and no fry to deal with :).

If you are going for a male/female tank, I'd say you could only have 4 different mbuna species with a minimum of 3 females to 1 male ratio each.

Do you think my stock list will work then if I do all males (first post)? I wanted to do 2 blue cobalts but will the males beat up on each other? Same goes for the other fish that I have more then one of on the list, will they beat up on each other too? Also, I know I asked this but can I put one Electric Blue Ahli or Blue Acara in there as my "big" fish? Will it work out ok?? Can I add anymore fish (same species or different?) or not? Thanks.

Lose the Ahli or Acara. Acara is american and the Ahli will get too big.

If the "Aurora" are Auratus, then they may be too aggressive with the other mbuna. Same for the socolofi. Try to buy groups of mbuna (1 male, 3-4 females). I would say about 15 fish total with superior filtration. < What is your filtration?

Its this guy > http://www.bbayaquariums.com/select-action.cfm?ID=61 . Even with just one socolofi you think it would be to aggressive? All the fish I've seen seem to be males, there doesn't appear to be a lot of females in the tanks. Filtration is an aqua-tech 40-60 for now, i'll see how it is and may change it later on. I obviously won't be adding all these fish at once, 2 or 3 at a time so the filter will be okay for a while. I would like a centerpiece fish though, what would be a good fish that would get a long with the others if the ahli and acara won't work?

With mbuna, you must add them all at one time or they will become territorial and kill new tank members.

Filtration should be like 2 Emperor 400s or 2 Aquaclear 110s. Filtration should cost around a hundred dollars, if not more.

There is no need for a centerpiece fish. Most centerpiece fish would get picked on in this type of aquarium.

Well, I have a house, brand new truck, and other bills to pay for too, rather then just my tanks and tank accessories (i.e filtration). I'll stick with this filter for now, and if I don't like it or whatever other reasons i'll consider something different. As of right now, its what I've got and what i'm using.

If I added the fish all at once would that not cause like some kind of ammonia spike? considering their would be no fish and then all of a sudden fish? I mean, i'm going to cycle the tank obviously but still.
