im just curious to see how far anyone here has to drive to get to a fish store... in my city we dont any any lfs. i have to drive like 30 minutes to get to one in the next city, or 30 minutes to go to walmart. and also how far is the furthest you guys have driven for fish before.
I stop on the way home from work . But from my house they are all 30-40
minuts away and that is the farthest I have driven for a fish . I have a
LFS 10 Minuts from my house but it sucks Over price .
Farthest I've gone was across town aprox. 15-20 km away wich translates to 10-20 min. I used to do that about once every two weeks though, but I stopped going there.
My closest fish are 30 miles away (petsmart, petco and wallmart) but none are reliable. My closest reliable fish spot is in Portland (Oregon) and 140 miles each way. I bought all my fish in my 90 from them. Three hour drive each way.
45mins to an hour to get to the nearest petsmart. I try to avoid the local pet place whenever possible because they carry dyed fish and I refuse to support that. The petco is only 10-15 mins away but some things petco doesn't have and petsmart does. Ive heard of another store around 20-30 mins away that Im going to try and find sometime soon to see what they have.
I have a pet shop about 4 miles from my house, but it's not the best. my favorite one is back in Illinois. I use to drive a hour to it, now it is 1.5 hours from me and I go to it on my way back to Illinois. It is the best fish shop I have been to. Great variety and interesting too! One of the few pet shops I have seen that stocks a few stingrays and tanks with nice looking discus!
My local privately owned store that can pretty much order any fish I want in is like a 5 minute drive, just about too far to walk. However they have a great selection of fish but if you want something very specific like Rams or Panda cory etc they order them then the fish are kinda stressed so if I wanted to literally go pick up some I would have to drive about 40 minutes to Big Al's.
