how far do you drive for fish?

I travel about 20 minutes across town. There is a petsmart and 2 LFS close to me but the petsmart has a habit of having sick fish, one LFS doesn't have hardly any freshwater fish and the other sells tattooed fish. I like to go to Pet Supermarket because the manager there has his own tank and is knowledgable.

It really depends on what I need. If I want to get fish then I drive about 20-25mins away. I prefer non-branch business when buying fish. The one I really love, Dolphin Pet Village, is great. All the staff working in the fish department are very knowledgable. They have a large selection of healthy fish (most of the time). They also can order the rare fish for you.

As for equipment. I use my local petco (5-7min away). They usually have great deals. I don't trust their fish selection anymore though. The last time I went I spotted at least one fish with Ick in everyone of their tanks.

Although, one exception to this is saltwater. My petco doesn't have a suitable saltwater equipement section for tanks. So I am visiting DPV to see their selection. I am pretty excited. The last time I went they had some deals on SW kits and liverock + sand.

I've ranged up to three hours in any direction to go noodle at fish shops. Dandy excuse for a motorcycle ride, and my saddle bags are nearly vibration free. Means I can actually take home something if I find a great buy.

While the local Petsmart is only 5 minutes away, I have to drive 60 miles in any direction to get to a real fish store. Our petsmart is really, really good though. They have a huge selection, and really healthy fish.

they carry dyed fish and I refuse to support that.

I recently went to wal-mart and they had tattooed mollies. My wife was really upset when i told her that they tattooed a fish.

My favorite lfs is owned by one of our friends and its a little over an hour drive.

most i've ever traveled was around 80 miles, the closer ones are around 8 miles, and the closest is about a half mile

Closest is 3 min down the road, the best near me is 30 minutes away, and YES I do go there :)

it depends..I prefer to buy fish from breeders.I have drive 2 hrs to get fish.(peruvian angels)

about 7 miles to Petsmart. About 70 miles to the closest real pet shop, where I wouldn't buy a single fish, 80 and 100 miles to the closest two good shops.

We have quite a few choices in Albuquerque, from the dubious (walmart -- okay for supplies) to the okay (petco, petsmart), to the locally owned (Clark's [two locations], Fins and Critters), but as I have no car, I have to plan ahead and try not to go during peak riding hours because certain busses get very full and caught in heavy traffic, or on the weekends, the busses don't run often and scheduling is not rider friendly. I generally go to Clark's, a pet store, which is about 20 minutes away by city bus (one way, depending on the traffic), or I can take two other, somewhat more reliable busses, also taking about 20-25 minutes total one way. However, being a bus rider, I bought my last fish on a warm day in early October and don't plan to go fish shopping again until the daytime high temperature is at least 70. I'll buy plants and supplies but not delicate fish. Fortunately, my current fish are doing okay. Today we expect another snowstorm... 2 hours and counting down to its arrival... and I want to go to Clark's... need Prime... must wait...!
