How good are the "complete" aquarium kits?

I am planning to upgrade my three 10 gallon tanks to one 29 gallon tank. My question is, how good are those "complete" set ups, particularly the filters?

I have never had a large tank before. Is there anything I need to know about, or get, that is different from dealing with a 10 gallon set-up?
Thanks!

Usually, but not always, the filters in the kits are not enough for the tank they go with. Can be as simple as just buying another. However, the drawback is that you dont get to choose exact brands or types of what is included in the kits, so depends on what you like.

The only real difference is that you have more water and space. Otherwise you logically need more filtration and possibly more waatage on a heater.

Can you guys recommend a couple good filter choices for a 29 gallon?

I bought a Top Fin "complete set-up" 29g and the filter and heater that came with it were enough and still work fine to this day; by fine I mean holds a steady temperature and the filter maintains my water parameters with weekly 30% water changes and filter changes every 4 weeks. The only thing I replaced was the 17 watt lightbulb with a 20 watt which is just fine for the plants in my tank.

I was very happy with everything and still am happy with the decision more than a year later.

You can put one of the aquaclear filters with the filter the kit comes with. Either an aquaclear 20 or an aquaclear 30. Also check out the heater the kit comes with. Sometimes they are not sufficient for the size tank either.

believe it or not..the last 'kit' I purchased was a wallyworld set up..came with a allglass tank and the wally world marineland emperor/penguin plain jane(not really a knock off as it is the biowheel filter sans the biowheel)

it actually functions quite well..the heater was the allglass(works well) cheap plastic lid(replaced with glass top) and a cheapin included hood/lamp.

20G for less than $50 complete. they now carry 29's...

When I saw this thread title it made me think of that kit. It looked like a pretty good kit for the price.

I have a wallyworld kit (55g) and I think it was around or a little over $200. It came with everything--tank,filter,lights,hoods and heater,,,and I see now they come with an air pump. I just bought a second filter, the same as the one that came with the kit and use it along with the one that came with it. It was called an "aqua-tech 30-60". I think it is some other type of filter with a different name. They do the job,,just don't get sand in them,,,like any filter I guess.

OK, so now I am really getting bold...I decided to go with the 55g instead of the 29 :)
I spotted it at Walmart yesterday - complete set up, for $151.97

I just picked up a stand at Petsmart and I will put it together tonight. I plan to get the tank in the next couple days. I am so excited!!!

ANY ADVICE???
