How long does it take to treat popeye?

My betta has popeye--has had it for quite a while, but I wasn't sure until I got my new betta and compared them.

He completed a course of Maracyn 2--no effect.

Now I'm using Ampicillex. How long should it take to see a change when I hit on the correct treatment? If the Ampicillex doesn't work, what should I try yet?

He's in an established 5 gal, no tankmates, ammonia and nitrite are 0, nitrate <5 ppm.

Keep treating until its cleared up.
He may lose an eye so prepare for that.
