How long does it take for a golden algae eater to get full size its in a 55 gallon with ammonia-0 nitrite-0 nitrate>40 Ph-8 the temp is about 76 i had it higher but the algae eater wouldnet stop pooping ever where so i slowed down it matabolism by lower the temp.

Mine went from less then an inch to 3 inches in less then 6 months. After that he got aggressive, latching on to other fish. I took the 3 I had back, and got ottocinclus's, much better fish.

The golden algea eaters are very pretty but they aren't worth the money IMHO. But then again some people may not expierience this. I believe, but may be mistaken, that the golden algea eaters are just a colorful versian of chinese algea eaters.

for the time being i love mine he cleans all the algae in my 55 off and hes only 2 inches and when there is algae on the air stones i just unpplug them for 10 or 15 minutes and he cleans them off completly. Once he starts to get aggressive i will probibly put him in my turtle tank because he cant pick on them.
