How Long Will It Take

I'm not sure what you mean by not seeding in any way. If you are doing a fishless cycle you must provide a food source - ammonia - for the bacteria to go forth a multiply. Otherwise you are just aging your water and it will never cycle.

Mine might have been an exception, but it was 3.5 weeks in my fishless cycle with no seeding material and I never experienced any drop in ammonia, no nitrites and no nitrates.

I got frustrated at that point so I threw in a sponge from another tank and poured in some Bio-Spira... Tank was 100% cycled the next morning.

Anyway, I've read a couple cases on here of people talking as high as 6 or 7 weeks.

So it probably isn't much difference time wise, than a fishy cycle. Just alot less work.
nope time wise it should definitely be right about the same.

Main difference being that at the end of a fishless cycle you can add your entire stock of fish all at once whereas you'll have to add small amounts every couple of weeks with a fishy cycle.

There is definitely work involved with the fishless cycle as you'll have to figure out just what amount of ammonia is correct to bring your levels up to 5ppm and you'll go through a lot of testing solution in order to find out where you are, but it is definitely more rewarding in the end.

I just finished cycling a 10g (fishy cycle) and have another 10g (fishy cycle) that looks as though it will soon be finished. There has to be less work involved with fishless than with fish. Testing water regularly sounds like CHILD"S PLAY compared to the testing and water changes I've been doing the last 8 weeks. I'm definetly doing fishless with the 55g but I have nothing to add from an established tank. I don't consider the 10g that well established since it has not been quite a week since it has cycled. Am I correct in assuming that?
