Hello everyone. Since I am just starting to fill my 55g freshwater community tank with some fish. I would like to know how many more fish I can add to my tank with out over stocking it. This is what I have so far and what I would like to get. Any opinions on what types to get would be great to but really how many is what I am really after. Thanks:)

Have:
3 sunset platys
3 blue coral platys
2 mystery snails

Would like:

Neon tetra's
Angel fish
More platys

Just so you know Angels are very good at eating neon tetras. Some people manage to keep them together but many others find out the hard way just what an angel thinks of those tastey snacks.

You have picked a lot of mid level swimmers. Is there any bottom dwelling fish you might be interested in?

You could get a little school of zebra danios for the top level, and maybe some cories for the bottom? I agree with TKOS about the angels/neon combo, but some people have had luck, I think if you get the angels when they're smaller/younger, and they kind of 'grow up' with neons in the tank you can do it.

Thanks for the heads up on the angel/tetra combo I don't want a death spree going on so I think that I will avoid that combo. I have thought about bottom feeders so I will probably get a couple of them as well. This is a new tank so the 6 I have in there I am going to leave alone for awhile to make sure that nothing is going on with the ph or any other water problems that I might have. Thanks for the advice :D

I had an angelfish and neon tetra combo when I started aquaria. The only time my angelfish killed any of my neons was when I transferred them from a 15 gallon to a 29 gallon. Someone posted an article here a few months ago that stated stressed fish tend to attack/pick on other fish to relieve stress, so I believe that is the only reason he did it.

However, they can have so many individual personalities that can't always be the case.

I have read numerous times that if an angelfish is raised with neons that they don't ever think of them as food. And my angelfish just killed two of them, didn't try to eat them.

Just food for thought.
