Hi.
I just saw an aquarium in a second hand store, but before I buy, I want to know how many gallons it is. It is 47" L x 11" W x 16" H. So my dad told me I needed to figure out the cubic inches, 8272 I think, then how many cubic inches hold a gallon of water...which I have no clue how to figure out. Does anyone have the formula to figure out how many gallons of water an aquarium will hold??

Thanks!

Thanks!

Assuming it's not a custom made tank... Comparing against common sizes, my money's on it being a 55g.

If you check GARF for the DIY it playes out like this:
Tank Information:
Material = Glass
Tank Height = 16"
Tank Width = 11"
Tank Length = 47 "
Glass Thickness = 1/4"
Approximate Gallons = 36

A 55 gallon tank is around 14" wide and 18" high

L x W x H/231 ..... works every time :)

Well, my first guess from the discription before I saw it was 50, but then when I saw it, it just didnt look quite that big, thats why I posted. I'm gonna bet its around 35 as the calculations indicate, but I'll let you know when it is full. Because even though I really want a 50 gallon, if my parents are willing to buy and stock a 35 gallon tank, then that is just fine with me. :) Birthdays are a good thing. :bday:
