How many guppies or mollies can i have in a 5 gallon. this is a open top, so i hope the fish dont jump. is there any Male to Female ratio i need to have?
Guppies are better options. Mollies grow far too big for the 5g at 3-4 inches. You'll need 2-3 females per male. A trio of guppies is the maximum number you can fit in your 5g.
I agree as well with the above. The Mollies would be tough, and as for Guppys I would consider Endlers ( a ver close cousin). However, in each case the issue isn't how many you add now, but how many you will have latter!
I would just get males (more color), and get 5-6 Guppies, or ~8 Endlers (Endlers are Unisex I think though)
Yeah. As long as you've got a male and a couple females you will have no trouble at all filling a 20G pretty quick (and a 5 gallon really quick), even with the parents eating most of the fry. All they do is breed.
I think a 5 gal is too small if you want to try breeding, especially livebearers. Is there any way you can upgrade to a 10? A 10G will allow you to breed endlers and keep up to 20 in there. Although there are reports on endlersrus.com that you can keep up to 40 endlers in a 10G tank. Of course, you'd need large water changes weekly and all.
Endlers are like miniature guppies with a lot more color blotches
Personally, I prefer them over guppies.
