How Many?

How many gold fish could you put in a 110 gal stock tank and what kind of filtration would I need? This is what it looks like.

I was also wondering if I could put mosquito fish in with the goldies to keep the mosquitoes away.

So, whats the big deal about misquito fish? All i have in my pond is 11 goldfish and 1 Shubunkin and I've never seen misquito larva in my pond... I have although seen it in my kids pool when I leave it filled too long... lol

Mosquito fish in my experience tend to nip anyone around. Your best bet would be a few guppies but do bear in mind your goldfish may eat several of them unless you have plenty of plants for them to hide. With fancy goldies, I am for 15g per fish and 20g for pond types albeit common goldfish, shubunkins and comets.

Mosquitoes tend to breed in stagnant water so adding a submersible pump is advisable in your pond. For filtration, you could do this if you like it.:thumbsup:

Thanks for the help Lupin. This is my first pond project and trying to get the wife to go along with it so the cheaper the petter. I'll post when I start the build.

Maybe have one that goes out of the bottom so that the sediment gets filtered or something. Im not sure. That seems like a cool project though!

Is this pond going to have substrate? If not, I'd push the pump further to the bottom to maintain a clean bottom thus preventing dead pockets from forming.

You could also check craigslist for good deals on pond filters and supplies.
