How much CO2?

The currently accepted level is 30ppm. But we guessimate that level with a device called a "Drop Checker".

is that the color changing indicator?

I have that, but it's always blue even though I put a bubble a second.

i think i might have messed up somewhere then

Thats it, but if it stays blue, then you need to increase the bubble rate.

yeah 1 BPS is meaningless without knowing how much water it's being diffused into. Also, how are you diffusing it? do you have surface agitation that could be releasing it? On a larger tank, gosh I can't even count my BPS. it's almost a solid stream LOL. You should adjust it to where your drop checker turns a yellowish green. Not YELLOW, but like a "spring green" from crayola :-)

I like my CAL AQUA drop checker. Very easy to use and not bad price $40.

how bigs your tank? that makes a big differencef on how much you need in your water.

also kh/gh and ph all play a factor on how much you need to put in your tank.

search the existing threads on AC for more information about co2

my tank is 55 US gallons, PH 7.6, and i'm diffusing it by a reactor under a over the back filter to push the bubbles back down some more. So there is some surface agitation.

for a 55 gallon tank, you need to increase your bubble rate to about a stream.

as mentioned above, that indicator with a reference guide is GREAT!

also, what kind of plants do you have?
