How much do you see your Amano shrimp?

A few days ago I purchased 5 Amano shrimp and added them to my 29 gallon moderately planted tank. Water quality appears good (0/0 NH3/NO2, < 5 ppm NO3). There is a betta in the tank who is perfectly healthy.

When I first added the shrimp they swam around for a few minutes then settled down on plants and on the substrate. The betta swam at them a bit but didn't attack and after about 5 minutes stopped paying attention to them.

Yesterday and the day before each had single shrimp sightings - one shrimp just hanging out on a plant or on the driftwood looking fine. Today I haven't seen the shrimp at all. I've looked carefully in the plants and under the driftwood and there's no trace. They could definitely be hiding or dead and hidden, but I thought they would be more active eating algae all around the tank.

Do they normally hide like this? Is this a sign that they're stressed? Or maybe I'd just see them more often if there were more shrimp?

I would like to add more but I want to make sure they will be successful.

Here is a picture of my tank. I suspect the water was cloudy because I had moved plants around but I am not totally sure. This picture was taken yesterday and today it is a bit clearer:

A shrimp on the banana plant. Not much smaller than the betta:

Yeah, Amano Shrimp are great at hiding. But don't worry, they're getting along just fine - and no doubt getting enough food to eat in your tank.
I got 6 good-sized Amanos about 4 months ago in my planted discus tank, and the most I have ever actually SEEN together at any one time is 3 - but I'm certain they're all surviving - everything else is - no losses for many, many months !
Here's my tank:

I also have 24 in my 46 gallon.. and i see like barely any.. i dont know if they are dead or hiding.. i sure hope not dead..

I see my two all the time in the 20gal. No one bothers them and they go nuts when i feed.

yeh.. when i had my amano's with my betta.. they hid ALL day... after taking out the betta they started swimming around 24/7 all day and i saw them all the time..

i put endlers and white clouds in there and they don't even acknowledge the fish.. sometimes even swimming into the fish scaring the fish half to death!.. very amusing :)

They hide a lot of the time.Don't fret.Put a rock or driftwood covered in hair algae close to a thicket of plants or other cover.Turn the tank lights out but leave a dim lamp on in the room. You might have to sneak up on them at first but you will usually see them out foraging at this time.Check your filters too as they have climbing skills like spiderman.Good luck...

When I had some fish in my rcs tank they always hid but after I took the fish out the don't hide at all :)

I would have liked rcs but the ones at my lfs were waay too small to put in with the betta. They would have been expensive betta food. :)

That's too bad about the Amanos. I was hoping they'd be a lot more visible... haven't seen them in days. I'm not sure it's worth it to get more instead of otos or one of the small plecostomus varieties.

wait a few more days and see if they become comfortable enough to come out and graze when i first got my cherries they hid all day but a week after i'm starting to see them alot more they may just need to feel secure in their surroundings first.
