can someone tell me how many pounds of gravel is needed for a 60 gallon? i plan on keeping cichlids. thanks

I just re did the substrate in my tanks and I went with just enough gravel to cover the glass....the other tank has about an inch more and I've been thinning it out. I
f you do get cichlids they will dig and move the gravel how they want and you can just put it back when you do your water changes. So if you wanted a nice planted tank then you'd have to stay with the smaller less aggressive cichlids.
The more gravel the more you'll need to vaccume. And the more chance that the junk will build up if you don't. Its really up to you, I think they say 1 lb for 1 gallon, but I think that that would be a little thick. I would stay between 1 and 2 inches if I had to start over again.
