How much would you pay for this setup?

I know very little about SW aquariums, but I've been watching this auction, and I'm wondering how good a deal it is. It's a 20 gallon tank with stand and includes the rock and sand. I'd have to drive about 3 hours round trip to pick it up.

I would say that it kind of depends what's included with it in terms of filters, heaters, lights, etc.

The tank looks like it has some live rock which might run you $3-5 a pound or more from a local store. The sand might be another $10-20 if you bought the live sand.

I'm guessing you could pick up that tank and stand from a local pet store for $100 or less.

What really matters are the lights. If they are high quality lights, that could really bump up the price. If just a standard hood light, probably not so much.

I probably wouldn't pay that much for it either, but it's really up to you. Browse craigslist and some local pet stores and see what equipment is going for. You can go to walmart and get a 55 gallon on teh cheap, but the other stuff is going to cost you.

Lights can be had for ~$200 for t5s
Rock is usually ~$5-10/lb
Sand could run your ~$50
Stand, skimmer, pumps, fish, coral, salt, the list goes on and on till you go broke, basically. ;)

I would say not more then $250 for the lights not appear to be anything special, like for F/O it looks to me :dog:

Wow, that looks larger than a 20G to me. I wouldn't pay $300 for a 20G regardless of the shape. Maybe if a filter was included and as someone else said, depending on the lights in the hood.

one dollar bob. ( I hate hex)

I do too and I own one! Smaller footprint, distorted views, and more difficult to get up and inside of it- especially if you have to do something near the bottom. It is a space saver though. My girlfriend has one too but I like hers better. It's easy to get into since it just sits on a small table. :D

I just won an auction for this 40g tank with stand, canopy, and PC lighting. The whole setup is going to cost $125. It's not the ideal tank shape, I prefer a longer tank over a taller one, but the way it is setup and the price were too good to refuse.

Yes, definitely! I like the wood a lot. Seems like a decent price to me.
