How often do u feed?

For those who hold jobs, or who are frequent travelers, or even those who raise many children, it's not possible to feed 6 times a day. On the weekend I feed 2 or so times per day but as I say, during the week nights I feed once.

I feed all my fish once every 3 days and they seem to do just fine. Although I admit that I do like to play with my baby Arowanas and African Butterfly and occasionally feed them feeder guppies 'cause they eat right out of my hand ;).

I feed once every other day. I have noticed on the off days, the drawf guarimi and golden guarimi like to eat off the rocks and fake plants

I only have a pleco for a few days and he seems to be cleaning up everything else.

Twice a day.

Feed my adults every other day since they started to look fat instead of just healthy, and it cut down on my algae problem. I feed my juvi big fish species once a day in the morning when I turn the light on. They were skittish at first but now me turning on the light in the morning drives them nuts. It's a dinner bell for them. All hand feed voraciously which helps me monitor how much each eats and cut down on overfeeding and wasted food. Every once and a while I skip a meal on them just to simulate the wild and make their appetite a little stronger and them more appreciative.

My bottle says not to feed more then they can eat in 5 min.

Don't know about anyone elses fish, but they eat most of the food i give in 3 min. Then they look for more food. i used to think they were still hungry and gave them more food. Then i realized how i spiked my levels from overfeeding.

Now i feed every other day, with the treat every so often.

Like you I have no idea how much to give, they say a pinch, but what the hell is a pinch. A pinch goes in 2nds with the fish i have, and not all the fish eat.

I think its a matter of what you KNOW your fish can eat. I dont go by any standard scale or what a bottle says...rather, I go by how much my fish can eat, something you learn with experience and experience only.

What the container claims as the "proper feeding time" is only meant for newbs who aren't familiar with the fish they keep. ;)

I am the newiest of the newbies. Like a little kid i hear so many different things and i get afraid to make choice on what i should buy or do. I guess that is what this site is for :D

Yep, just hang in there. Its tricky at first...but more than anything is rather overwhelming. I mean, with all the info thrown at you at once it can get depressing if something bad happens to your fish. Just read, read, read...and research. You'll do fine. ;)
