Actually, fish like Oscars will starve. Not to mention Arrowanas, etc.. Discus... even Goldfish.. Some smaller fishes can do well with minimal feedings. Fish do need food.

A big mistake is to overfeed, and it's sooo easy to do....

A good thing to remember when feeding your fish is this:

The average fish has a stomach about the same size as their eye socket, so feed them an amount about the size of their eye or maybe a bit more. (bear in mind that powdered and chewed food takes up less space than a flake of course...)

The exception being oddball nocturnals and the larger species, like dragonfish or arrowana :)

Hope this helps!

Speaking as one who keeps Goldfish, I would like to say it is almost impossible to starve them. I keep goldfish indoors, and outdoors and I can go off on week n a half long vacations and dont have to worry about those fish. They do fine w/o food.

The ONLY fish I EVER have to worry about when I go out of town is my (smaller) tropical fish. I dont think they'd manage well for a fairly decent vacation period. Just food for thought (no pun intended)

Wow, guys thanks Ihad a lot of replies to read trough, I'm feeding every other day so thats good, the amounts I still have to figure out better. Now I got 2 rams,3 days ago,and they don't seem to b eating,I fed twice and when I throw d flakes they r at d bottom hiding, and everything gets eaten till they notice they had food, should I give them some time to adapt?

i am far from an expert on this, but i can tell you my silver dollars did that as well. By the time they realized there was food it was all gone. I tried to feed more but it only spiked all my levels. A few days later once all the fish got used to each other, they all started to eat. I guess just give it time.
