always and never

always if you want to change the look. never once its set and your doing your trimmings you dont need to change it. some plants like crypts dont like to me moved much.
some of the readings i've been doing says after some time the substrate seems to change in favor of some plants and others don't grow so well no matter if u use substrate ferts. or not. anyone ever heard of this?

thats what i've heard. It's kinda like why farmers plant diff. crops cuz the soil content changes and certain plants will grow better or worse depending on how old the substr. is. Im still trying to find out more on this but some people say you should start a new subst. every 3 years. Believe me i hope this ain't true i have quite a few planted tanks and they all are at 3 yrs. setup already. still growing good, would not look forward to tearing them down and starting over.

all my tanks are planted in flourite, not slamming eco complete,so i should be safe.

flourite eco complete same thing. it has trace in it so over time they get used up i am guessing. only active for so long. how long i dont know.
Im still looking into the how long part i will get back to you if i ever find out. Thanks Mgamer20oO.

Most planted aquarists nowadays tend to slightly overdose on liquid ferts, like suggested by the EI method. By doing so, you are ensuring that the plants have enough nutrients even if the minerals in the substrate is used up. Properly fertilized, a tank doesn't need to be torn down.
